Plant has held the IBF super-middleweight title since 2019 and has made three successful title defenses. As a result, he is in line to face P4P king Canelo Alvarez later in the year. However, ‘El Bandera Roja’ Benavidez has other ideas.

The American spoke to Fight Hub TV and explained the situation. He then told Marcus Villegas, “Tell him to grow a pair of ba**s and sign the contract.” With this comment, Benavidez hinted at being ducked by Caleb Plant. And this is not the first time either.

The 23-0 knockout artist has lashed out at Plant multiple times in the past. He believes the IBF Champion knows he will lose in a fight and therefore is avoiding it. Even after Plant’s title defense against Caleb Truax, Benavidez called him out and wanted to make it happen before the end of the year.

Why does David Benavidez want to fight Caleb Plant?
As a two-time WBC champion in the division, ‘El Bandera Roja’ does not need to fight any top contenders in the division. He is already in line for the title shot. So why is he so desperate to fight the IBF champion, Caleb Plant?

As mentioned, Plant and Benavidez have had a brief history between them. Moreover, Benavidez wants to take on Canelo Alvarez. However, Alvarez has declared his desire to become the undisputed champion, and that rules out the undefeated Benavidez, at least for now.

Therefore, if the former champion can face Caleb Plant in the middle of the year and beat him, it would be the ideal scenario. Not only would he have beaten a rival, but he would also have earned a shot at Canelo Alvarez.

Furthermore, his comments hinted that his team has sent a contract to Plant to make the fight happen. This makes the situation a lot more interesting.
