Over the past few decades, there have been enough disastrous incidents in boxing, wherein pugilists have often ended up putting themselves in a vulnerable spot. However, most of them have been inside the ring. But recently, a heart-wrenching incident took place with a Russian boxer.

23-year-old boxing prodigy, Ilya Medvedev, suffered some brutal injuries when he recently fought a bear that killed his friend. Medvedev was out fishing with his friend, Vyacheslav ‘Slava’ Dudnik, and they didn’t know what was about to happen.

While the duo’s attention was on fishing, a gigantic bear attacked ‘Slava’. The bear slashed Dudnik to death. As a result, Medvedev couldn’t save his friend, and the only option he had was to save himself.

That said, the Russian boxer first fired four gunshots at the bear. However, this didn’t stop the terrifying and powerful critter. The bear still came up with full force to attack Medvedev, but the Russian boxer then pulled out a knife to stab the bear to death.

An eyewitness of this incident, Denis Chebotar, took the viciously injured boxer to the hospital. Medvedev, for now, is under intensive care as the injuries he suffered were brutal.

The Russian boxer who competed in the Russian National Championships isn’t well known in the combat sports fraternity. However, this incident shocked everyone. They will keep their fingers crossed to see Medvedev recover quickly.

Unfortunately, he encountered a horrific incident, and it is not known if he will be able to secure a twenty-second amateur bout or even turn professional.

That said, the Russian boxer’s decision or ability to compete again will depend on how well he recovers. We hope that he hasn’t suffered any serious injuries that might damage his future ahead.
