Australian lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. would love nothing more than to defend his titles against some of the best boxers. Kambosos recently talked about the host of talent in the 135 pound division. Moreover, he gave special emphasis on the potential mega fights in the division.

Kambosos Jr. recently had a chat with FightHype.

During their conversation, the host asked Kambosos about the fellow contenders in his division, “Does that excite you? What is it like knowing that even past Devin? There’s so many more guys who are still at that elite level.”

In reply, Kambosos talked about being the current champion, saying, “Obviously, I am the top guy right now. And to just keep proving it.”

Kambosos further spoke about the other contenders, saying, “Knowing that you’ve got all these other big name guys but they don’t have the accolades. That’s right, a lot of mega fights, a lot of mega fights here.”

He currently holds the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and The Ring lightweight titles.

While speaking about defending his title, he said, “They say when you hold the gold. You hold the keys.”

George Kambosos Jr. talks about his fellow contenders

While talking about the possibility of mega fights, Kambosos Jr. made a special mention to a few notable names in the lightweight division.

Kambosos took a swipe at lightweight contender, Ryan Garcia. Kambosos prodded at Garcia by saying, “He struggles to find the gym in America. So it’d be a tough one for him to come all the way here.”

Kambosos also showed his respect for Ukrainian lightweight contender Vasyl Lomachenko. He mentioned how Lomachenko would have been ready for a bout in Australia if the Ukranian conflict was not taking place.

However, Kambosos had his doubts with regard to WBA (Regular) lightweight title holder Gervonta Davis. He emphasized on how he saw issues with Floyd Mayweather‘s promotional company which Davis is currently signed to.

George Kambosos Jr. is set to defend his title against Devin Haney for the undisputed lightweight championship. The bout is scheduled to take place at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on the 5th of June.
