Muhammad Ali is arguably the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. And Mike Tyson? Well, he wasn’t too far behind. Following in the footsteps of ‘The Greatest’ and ‘Iron’ Mike in the ring is something almost every boxer dreams of doing. Gervonta Davis is shaping up to do just that. But he’s also doing it outside the boxing ring.

Just a few days ago, Gervonta Davis converted to Islam. It took the combat world by surprise, but the news resonated positively. After UFC veteran Khabib Nurmagomedov welcomed the undefeated lightweight boxer with open arms, MMA fighter Khamzat Chimaev followed suit, extending a warm welcome to Davis on social media.

The 29-year-old fighter, hailing from Baltimore, embarked on a new chapter by embracing Islam. This transformative journey culminated in a formalized conversion on December 24, in a ceremony called the Shahada, held at Masjid Al-Hidaayah in Woodlawn, Maryland. Marked by a name change for Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, he will henceforth be known as Abdul Wahid, meaning ‘The Slave of the One.’

The announcement of his conversion and name change was shared with the public through a video posted by fellow boxer Badou Jack on X. Subsequently, UFC fighter Khamzat Chimaev didn’t hold back from addressing ‘Tank’ with his new official name on X. He posted a picture of Davis, writing, “Abdul Vahid… Alhamdulillah,” which means, ‘All glory to God.’
