The 29-year-old fighter, hailing from Baltimore, embarked on a new chapter by embracing Islam. This transformative journey culminated in a formalized conversion on December 24, in a ceremony called the Shahada, held at Masjid Al-Hidaayah in Woodlawn, Maryland. Marked by a name change for Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, he will henceforth be known as Abdul Wahid, meaning ‘The Slave of the One.’

The announcement of his conversion and name change was shared with the public through a video posted by fellow boxer Badou Jack on X.
