If you know Floyd Mayweather, you know he loves flaunting his wealth. From luxury cars to diamond-encrusted jewelry, his extravagant purchases have piled up over the years. But this time, his latest splurge has backfired, turning him into a laughingstock among fans. So, what did ‘Money’ Mayweather buy that has his own supporters mocking him?
The richest boxer in history recently picked up a Rolex ‘Eye of the Tiger’ watch from his longtime jeweler, Benny the Jeweler. Benny proudly showcased the deal on Instagram, posting a video of Mayweather’s latest acquisition. However, instead of admiration, the reveal sparked a backlash—only this time, the heat wasn’t just on Mayweather, but on the jeweler himself.
Why is Benny the Jeweler facing the heat?

According to the Instagram post, Mayweather’s latest purchase set him back a staggering $400K—an eye-watering amount, but hardly surprising for those familiar with his spending habits. However, what followed left fans in shock.
“We got the Eye of the Tiger, factory on a full pave bracelet,” Benny detailed in the video, showcasing the watch. He then revealed that the price tag alone came with an additional $20,000 cost. “We got the white tag with it too,” Benny said, to which Mayweather added, “That’s an extra $20,000 from what he told me.”
Even though the exact details of Mayweather’s new watch haven’t come to light, sources reveal that the ‘Eye of the Tiger’ Rolex Daytona is an off-catalog luxury chronograph. It features a striking tiger-print dial with black lacquer stripes and 243 brilliant-cut diamonds. Introduced in 2019, with two follow-up models in 2021, these watches come in 18k yellow or white gold and feature a bezel set with 36 trapeze-cut diamonds.

They are powered by the Rolex Caliber 4130 automatic chronograph movement, have a 40mm case, and offer 100 meters of water resistance. The three known references—116588TBR, 116589TBR, and 116598TBR—differ in material and bracelet options, with some featuring the Oysterflex bracelet and others a diamond-set gold Oyster bracelet. These watches are considered spiritual successors to the 2004 Leopard Daytona but offer a more refined aesthetic.
Their defining feature is the unique animal-print diamond dial, which solidifies their ‘Eye of the Tiger’ nickname. Regardless, while luxury watches often command jaw-dropping prices, the idea of a price tag costing $20K sent fans into a frenzy. Outraged netizens wasted no time flooding the comment section with objections and allegations of alleged fraud.
Fans claim Floyd Mayweather got ‘finessed’
It’s worth mentioning that after the jeweler started facing backlash from the public, one user, seemingly aware of the high-end jewelry scene, explained why the price tag attracted an extra $20K. “Hey y’all, the white tag is valuable in seller’s market [because] it’s a factory set diamond watch. Not to mention, it’s a collectible,” the user wrote. Benny, thankful for the user, responded to the comment, writing, “Thank you 😂 if you know you know.”
Despite the justification for the price, this user poked fun at Mayweather while accusing Benny of allegedly committing fraud. “20k for a white tag is cap 🧢 he finessed money may,” the user wrote. Notably, Mayweather hasn’t responded to the backlash towards Benny yet.

The next user had a similar feeling about the purchase. “What he means is he finessed [you] for an extra 20 😂,” the user wrote. Floyd Mayweather has several expensive watches. It’s unclear whether Mayweather had to pay extra for their price tags as well.
Someone else got curious and had to ask a question about the price tag. “OK so without the watch, the tag is worth 20,000. Please explain—curiosity,” the user wrote. However, the watch and the tag are sold together, without the watch, the tag is likely worthless.

Meanwhile, this user thought Mayweather might not be as concerned about the extra $20K. “Y’all think Floyd [is] worried bout an extra 20k? 😂😂😂😂😂,” the user asked. While $20K might not mean much to Floyd, it was enough to start a hailstorm of criticism.
That said, Benny the Jeweler might have been looking for a little promotion with the social media post with Floyd Mayweather. Instead, he got a bunch of fans poking fun at Mayweather and accusing him of alleged fraud. What are your thoughts on the matter?
