The highly anticipated showdown between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford has captured the attention of boxing fans worldwide. With the fight scheduled for July 29 on Showtime PPV, the event promises to be one of the most exciting matchups in recent years, reminiscent of the legendary Mayweather vs. Pacquiao bout in 2015. When discussing the fight, it’s hard to ignore that Crawford is considered the favorite by the oddsmakers. With an unblemished record of 39-0, he has established himself as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.

Spence Jr., on the other hand, acknowledges that he understands why Crawford is the favorite. After enduring two car crashes and a torn retina eye injury in the last four years, Spence recognizes that he would naturally be seen as the underdog in this matchup. However, this label only fuels his motivation to defy the odds and prove himself as the best welterweight in the division.

In a recent interview with Brian Custer, the unified champion was asked how he felt about ‘Bud’ coming into the fight as the favorite. He expressed his belief that after winning the fight, he would undoubtedly become the best fighter in the world.

After I win this fight, I’ll be the best fighter in the world. And, I could see why he is the favorite. Just, just, common sense. I’m realistic. All the stuff that I’ve been through, just the stuff that people know about, I’ve been through. I will pick him as the favorite too. So, stuff happened, and I keep defying the odds,” he said.

One of the significant challenges Spence has faced was a severe car crash that occurred in 2019. Many doubted his ability to make a successful comeback from such a devastating incident. However, Spence proved the naysayers wrong by returning to the ring and showcasing his exceptional skills and resilience in his subsequent fights. Moreover, ‘The Truth’ feels that Crawford’s resume isn’t as good as his and is sometimes overstated while discussing his legacy.
