Even though a month has passed since Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. fought, the bout itself continues to be a huge topic of chit-chat in the community. In case you missed it, ‘The Reaper’ almost beat ‘Tank’ in New York last month—it ended in a majority draw, even though he should’ve gotten a knockdown in the ninth round that could have nudged a decision in his favor. Interestingly, Roach has now come out with another bombshell regarding a $250K payout he should have received from the Baltimore native but hasn’t yet.

This comes after recent reports suggested that the fight itself was a huge success, producing $6,415,815 gate from 16,420 tickets sold plus 766 comps. The total 17,186 was the second-highest attendance in the Barclays Center overall, but it became the highest-ever boxing event at the venue. Despite the amount of revenue the fight made, Roach Jr. has accused Davis of backing out of paying him $250K, per their bet before the fight, if you remember the pre-fight press conference.

Davis had wagered on knocking out Lamont Roach Jr. during their fight, betting $250K on the line. However, it didn’t go as Davis planned, so during an interview with Andre Ward, Roach Jr. didn’t shy away from highlighting the point that Tank was avoiding the payment. “Like the betting that he was going to knock me out and stuff like that,” Roach Jr. reminded.

“That didn’t go too well for him. We bet and we shook on it… he changed his number, I haven’t got that [money] yet,” Roach added. “I tried to call him, and I tried to DM him too. He changed his number.” While it’s unclear whether Roach Jr. will ever get his hands on the $250K, he has provided an update on their eventual rematch.

Lamont Roach Jr. has kept the pressure on for a rematch with Gervonta Davis following their controversial majority draw on March 1. From the moment the final bell rang, Roach has been vocal about running it back. In the same interview, Roach delivered a six-word update that perfectly captured where things stand.

“We trending in the right direction.” Roach doubled down on his optimism, adding, “I hope we can make an announcement soon. I hope we have a decision soon, that’s all I’mma say.” While June 21 in Las Vegas has been rumored as the date and location, nothing is official yet. But if Roach’s words are any indication, fans might not have to wait much longer for confirmation.
