On August 29, Amanda Serrano defeated Yamileth Mercado by unanimous decision. That very night, she gained immense recognition from fans of the sport and beyond as well. This Showtime PPV event attracted a ton of fresh eyes. It was headlined by YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and former UFC champion Tyron Woodley.

Leading up to this event, Paul and Serrano developed a friendship and even trained together in Puerto Rico. After the event, Jake Paul’s team shared that he had taken a pay cut from his own purse to help other fighters on the card. Reportedly, he had also contributed $500,000 as a bonus payment to Amanda Serrano.

In a recent interview, Brian Custer asked Amanda Serrano if she actually received a $500,000 bonus from ‘The Problem Child’. A humble Serrano did not outright deny that claim. Instead, she highlighted why she is appreciative of Paul’s effort and that she wishes to extend their partnership to achieve greater things.

He gave us some, I mean, Jake Paul, even from the beginning, he took a pay cut so everyone else on the card can get paid well and that’s you know, if you like him or don’t, you have to appreciate that as a fighter, as a female fighter.

“You know, we don’t get too many opportunities where we fight on Showtime PPV, where we have a great platform, and where we make money.

“He sees that and he’s a great advocate for females in sport. I really appreciate that and I’m hoping to continue working with him and his team,” said Amanda Serrano.

After this, Brian Custer once again pressed on the initial subject. He asked her again if the $500,000 bonus claim was “exaggerated.”

I mean unless he’s gonna give me the rest a little later,” Serrano responded.

Jake Paul is now helping Amanda Serrano book a mega-fight against Katie Taylor

Seven division champion Amanda Serrano fought WBC Super Bantamweight champion, Yamileth Mercado, on August 29. They engaged in a 12-round clash that seemed one-sided right from the get-go, in favor of the Puerto Rican fighter.
