Floyd Mayweather just took shots at his former rival, Logan Paul, for not giving his best during their exhibition fight back in June 2021. The duo went toe-to-toe at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in a scoreless bout that went the distance. Despite being the bigger guy with a 35-pound weight advantage, Logan Paul dragged out a rather uneventful eight rounds.

Even though Mayweather’s exhibition bouts were seeing lower numbers, this one was quite the hit, as The Mirror quoted the fight to have raked in 1 million pay-per-view buys. However, Logan Paul later revealed he had never received a large part of his payment from the fight. Regardless, ahead of his exhibition bout against John Gotti III on August 24th, Mayweather made a brutally honest confession about their exhibition match.

Floyd Mayweather: Entertaining but meh

While speaking to ‘Money’ Mayweather, Alex Montiel, who also goes by PelucheEn ElEstuche, brought up his bout against Logan Paul. Mayweather quickly recollected the bout, suggesting they did put on an entertaining fight for the public, but felt things could have been better. “I think it would have been a lot [more] entertaining if he came to fight,” Mayweather admitted.

He even highlighted that Logan Paul managed to use his weight advantage and background in wrestling to tie him up on various occasions, adding, “[It] was a good thing for him.” Interestingly, Paul started his boxing career when he faced fellow YouTuber KSI in 2018 at the Manchester Arena, which ended in a draw.

However, when they appeared in the ring again for their rematch, the decision tipped on KSI’s side, as the Brit was given a split-decision win. Not to forget, Logan Paul faced Dillon Danis last year, securing a win by disqualification in what many labeled as one of the most disgraceful boxing matches to date.

Regardless, while Floyd Mayweather claims the fight was not as entertaining as it could have been, Logan Paul has revealed there were even talks of a rematch.

Logan Paul on being asked for a rematch

In March 2024, Logan Paul revealed that Floyd Mayweather had asked him for a rematch on two occasions, but he declined both offers. During an interview on In Depth With Graham Bensinger, Paul shared, “He asked me. He asked me. Twice… I said no.” Paul explained his decision, noting, “He’s not a person you take a fight on six weeks’ notice with… If I did it again, it would be to beat Floyd Mayweather – which I think is doable.”

Paul also emphasized that the financial terms would need to be more favorable, saying, “If I fought him again it wouldn’t be 85/15, it’s 50/50. ‘F**k you bro, I don’t need this s**t. You need it way more than I do’.” While Paul admitted that the idea of being the only person to knock out Mayweather excites him, he concluded, “Probably not… I got bigger fish to fry.”

With mere hours left in his bout against John Gotti III, Floyd Mayweather clearly took shots at Logan Paul. Could this mean a revived rivalry between the two? It’s certainly possible, but only time will tell whether Paul or Mayweather agree to a rematch. Do you think they should fight again?
