Amir Khan Opens Up on His Four-Minute Round Sparring- “I Am More Confident”

Former champion Amir Khan believes he has hit his prime phase once again ahead of his comeback fight against Kell Brook on February 19. Having fought Billy Dib in 2019 on his last outing, Khan shall overcome ring rust of over two years when he steps through the ropes. The 35-year-old is well aware of that and has begun rigorous preparations already.

Khan seems optimistic about his current conditions and doesn’t envision himself losing to ‘Special K’ at any cost. He is reportedly sparring in four-minute rounds with 30-second hiatus in between. While Brook possesses extreme KO power to his side, Amir Khan is preparing for the adversaries.

In an exclusive chat with Sky Sports, ‘King Khan’ shared several aspects surrounding his boxing drills, especially the four-minute rounds in sparring.

Amir Khan said, “My chest is burning but this is what makes you a champion,”

“I am more confident.”

“I have had a few sparring rounds with Crawford and done mitt work with BoMac. It’s back! I feel like I’m 25 or 26 again, at the peak of my career. I can’t see Brook beating me.”

“I’m a better-skilled fighter. I have been in with better opposition.”

The Khan vs Brook matchup was completely in favor of the fans a few years back. Although both men may have passed their prime, the excitement surrounding the bout is still in full flow. It will be interesting to see who has more to offer at the age of 35. Besides, there’s mutual hatred amongst the former world champions, which is fueling the rivalry to its core.

While Manny Pacquiao retired at the age of 42, we can expect Khan to set another attempt at the world title. Brook is a veteran puncher and can offer a tough challenge even to many of the modern-day stars.
