Veteran heavyweight, Chris Arreola, will finally return to the ring on Saturday to face fellow Mexican-American, Andy Ruiz Jr. ‘The Nightmare’ will go into the bout as the underdog with a lot to prove. So ahead of the fight, we analyze his last fight and see what effect it could have on his comeback bout.
Just like his bout against Ruiz Jr., Arreola was the main event even in his last fight. The former heavyweight title challenger took on the Polish powerhouse, Adam Kownacki, back in 2019. The two fighters put on a fantastic fight for fans.
Both fighters went into the bout evenly matched, with similar styles. This made for a great fight for fans to watch since both fighters stood their ground and traded blows for 12-rounds. As a result, ‘The Nightmare’ and Kownacki set the record for the most punches thrown in the heavyweight division.

Despite the entertainment, there was no movement from either fighter and not much of a game-plan. Both looked to land the big shots to get the knockout. However, neither fighter succeeded, and it went to the judges’ scorecards. Ultimately, Kownacki took home the unanimous decision thanks to a better showing in the later rounds.
How will this fight influence Chris Arreola and his bout against Andy Ruiz Jr.?
This fight was proof that Arreola could stand and trade for 12 rounds. Moreover, it showed his incredible chin to withstand a barrage from his opponent. However, it also exposed many loopholes in his game. So how will it affect his bout against Andy Ruiz Jr.?
If Arreola follows the same game-plan for ‘The Destroyer’, he will find himself in a lot of trouble as Ruiz Jr. is faster than Kownacki and carries more power than the Pole. Moreover, given his incredible weight loss, Ruiz Jr. will be lighter on his feet, which will make it harder for Arreola to keep him in one place.

Rather than being the aggressor, ‘The Nightmare’ will have to counter Ruiz Jr. This will prevent the fight from becoming a slugfest and will ensure Ruiz Jr. will have to put all the pressure.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the former world title challenger approaches the fight. One thing is for certain, if Arreola allows Ruiz Jr. to stand and trade, he will not last 36 minutes.
