Andy Ruiz Jr. Beats Chris Arreola via Decision After Overcoming Early Adversity

Andy Ruiz Jr. made a successful return to the ring after beating Chris Arreola via a 117-110, 118-109, 118-109 unanimous decision. The former heavyweight champion had a lot to prove in his comeback fight, and prove he did. He survived an early barrage from the veteran and fought his way back into the contest.

The two fought as the main event of a stacked card on PBC. Ruiz Jr. went into the fight as the firm favorite. However, the experience of Arreola showed as the former title challenger rocked ‘Destroyer’ several times. Ultimately, Ruiz Jr. showed his class and got the victory.

How did the fight between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Chris Arreola pan out?

Both fighters made a measured start to the bout. Arreola took a different approach from his other fights and chose to box on the outside; Ruiz Jr. took the center of the ring. This approached worked wonders for ‘The Nightmare’ as he knocked down Ruiz Jr. with a vicious counter in the second round.

The fight came to life in the third round, with both boxers trading power shots. Arreola hurt ‘Destroyer’ who soon followed up with his own shots and hurt the veteran. A rather subdued round four and five followed. However, it was evident that Arreola’s game plan was working.

As they approached the halfway mark, the former champion found his rhythm and grew into the fight. But Arreola stuck to his game plan with lesser success. However, neither fighter could step on it as the fight entered the last quarter.

How did the fight end?

As the two fighters entered the last three rounds, Ruiz Jr. came out with a little extra desire. At this point, it was clear that the former champion found a better rhythm and won many of the middle rounds thanks to his activity.

The championship rounds brought more success for ‘Destroyer’ as he stepped on the gas and took the fight to Arreola. Furthermore, the veteran hurt his left shoulder and could not use his jab to keep Ruiz Jr. at bay.

Ultimately, the former champion showed his class and mettle and fought his way back to win via a unanimous decision.
