Angry Canelo Alvarez Sends a Message to Lionel Messi-Led Argentina After Mexico’s World Cup Defeat

The 2022 FIFA world cup has seen the re-ignition of the love for soccer. Fans were seen thronging to the stadiums in Qatar to extend their support to their favorite teams. Meanwhile, it seems like this soccer fever has also transitioned into the world of boxing as well. In fact, pound-for-pound superstar, Canelo Alvarez recently took to social media to show his support for his home country.

Argentina faced Mexico at the Lusail Stadium on November 26, 2022. Moreover, this was also the match that decided if Argentina remains in the competition. Notably, they had previously lost their opening match to Saudi Arabia. Soccer legend Lionel Messi’s first goal changed the entire pace of the Argentinian team. This in turn paved the way for a second goal by Enzo Fernandez. With these two goals, Argentina won the match against Mexico with a score of 2-0.

Talking about the victory, Messi said, “We had to rescue our World Cup. We needed this euphoria. It seems like in the second half we made our true debut.”

Meanwhile, Alvarez who is also from Mexico was not too happy with Argentina’s victory. He posted a series of tweets as the match progressed. And it can be said that his frustration was evident.

But, when Argentina won in the end, Alvarez took to Twitter to congratulate the team for their victory. Moreover, he also mentioned that he respects the Argentinian team. However, he was quick to confirm that he was ‘Mexican to the bone’.

There is no denying that Canelo Alvarez is an avid soccer fan. While he might be disappointed about his home country’s loss against Argentina. Alvarez believes that the team will reach the finals.

He was recently asked about his thoughts on the team’s potential. Alvarez responded by mentioning that he has complete faith in Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino’s pupils. He said, “Maybe I’m going to sound crazy. But I bet that he will be in the final. Maybe, maybe they extended me the invitation and I’m looking into it. Because of my hand and rehab.”
