Anthony Joshua Expresses His Desire to Win WBC Belt – “It’s One That I’m Keen on Getting My Hands On”

Anthony Joshua has made his intentions clear ahead of his IBF title defense against Kubrat Pulev. The Englishman says he will fight for the WBC belt and is serious about the potential match-up against Tyson Fury. The 31-year-old spoke to SkySports, ahead of his fight against Kubrat Pulev on December 19, and revealed his desire to take over the division completely.

He said, “It’s not only just the WBC but, competing with the toughest challenger in the heavyweight division has to offer, right? That’s the only way you get better.  You have a tough night, you back, you improve. Whether you win or you lose.” Thus showing that as much as the titles mean, it’s also about creating a legacy of greatness.

The Englishman added, “Fighting for the WBC would be an honor. It’s a prestigious belt, It’s one that I’m keen on getting my hands on. When the time’s right, the opportunity will present itself.”

This suggested that he is in no hurry to make the fight happen, but is open to it if things go to plan. Fury’s promoter has also confirmed that they are seriously plotting for Anthony Joshua to be the WBC champion’s next opponent.

Anthony Joshua confirms that there was a possibility of fighting for the WBC belt.

The superstar also admitted that there was some truth in the rumors of him fighting Wilder.

In response to Wilder’s recent comments, he said, “There’s been some new information that has surfaced now to say that we was… we had a big interest in competing for that title, a year, year and a half ago… And now we’re in the position where we find ourselves defending the IBF [title] and hopefully, when the WBC talk comes rounds again, people understand that Joshua’s serious. Which I am.”

Joshua will be looking to dispatch Pulev and make a bold statement to the division and set up a fight against ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury. Fans will have to wait and see if it materializes, especially after Oleksandr Usyk’s comments on Joshua.
