Anthony Joshua Links Up With ‘Perfect’ Soccer Legend Post Francis Ngannou Victory

Anthony Joshua is the man in boxing right now! Not only did he defeat Francis Ngannou, but he also saved everyone in boxing from the shame of losing to a UFC guy. Meanwhile, right after his win in Saudi Arabia, the boxing great linked up with a legend from the soccer world. Turning to social media, Anthony Joshua shared his encounter with Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Going into Joshua’s Friday night fight, people had mixed opinions on what would happen, given Ngannou’s spectacular showing against Tyson Fury. However, Joshua proved once and for all that UFC fighters should think twice before stepping into the squared circle. Dropping Ngannou in the first round, Joshua wrapped up the short affair in the second via knockout. So, Ibrahimović had a few words of praise for Joshua on social media today.

Turning to Instagram, the 42-year-old shared a snap with Joshua in his story with a message for the newly crowned Joshua. “We are not trying to be perfect, we are perfect @anthonyjoshua,” wrote Ibrahimović. In response to the special message, Joshua turned to his Instagram story, sharing the post from Ibrahimović.

Moreover, with the win against Ngannou in the bag, Joshua has primed himself against the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury, scheduled to be held on April 20 in Kingdom Arena, Saudi Arabia. The fight will produce the undisputed heavyweight champion, a first since Lennox Lewis in 1999. Meanwhile, Ibrahimović wasn’t alone in praising Joshua for his latest win.

Ryan Garcia has been going through his own issues lately, but he didn’t miss the opportunity to warn UFC fighters about the consequences of trying their hand at boxing. The Victorville native, who has voiced his desire to fight UFC fighter Sean O’Malley, hopped on X (formerly Twitter) to express his thoughts on the Joshua vs. Ngannou fight.

“Let this be A BIG WARNING to MMA fighters!! Stop coming to boxing, it will only get [worse],” wrote Garcia. He further explained that it would be better if boxers went to MMA rather than the other way around. Garcia added, “Sending healing prayers to FRANCIS! Your bravery and guts should be commendable. CONGRATULATIONS Anthony Joshua.”
