Heavyweight superstar Anthony Joshua billed the WBC title fight between Terri Harper and Natasha Jonas as a landmark event for the sport and not just for women’s boxing.

The Brit might be onto something here. Harper vs Jonas was what could be claimed as a nail-biting thriller where both the women were forced to give it everything they had.

Although Harper retained the strap around her waist, she was taken into deep waters. After a tough-battle, the fight was declared a draw. Thus, it might spark an immediate re-match.

“People say this was a great fight for woman’s boxing. I think this was a great fight for boxing as a whole,” wrote the heavyweight in the caption.

Terri Harper vs Natasha Jonas

This marked the first time that Terri Harper was unable to vanquish her opponent inside the ring. In fact, she was thoroughly troubled by Jonas during the fight.

Jonas had a steady response to Harper’s defense from the very beginning. She could use her reach well and landed some accurate shots over the champion in the first round.

She started the second round with the same vigor and hit Harper with an accurate left hand. However, the champion bounced back and clipped Jonas multiple times to secure her dominance.

Both the women appeared frenetic throughout the fight and kept responding to each other with action.

However, Harper made a massive statement in the fifth round by unleashing consistent uppercuts on Jonas. Yet, Jonas came back in the sixth round with a sleek and prominent left-hand jab.

They kept hunting each other down for the ten rounds with Jonas almost defeating Harper in the ninth. Yet, the champion fired back at 10, making it a hard day for the judges.

The judges scored the contest 96-95 for Jonas, 96-94 for Harper, and 95-95 for both to conclude it as a draw.

The British Dominance in Boxing

As Harper and Jonas represented the Brits in one of the biggest title fights, the men’s division is no different.

Tyson Fury is slated to defend his WBC strap opposite his American rival, Deontay Wilder, in December. WBC has already ordered to award the next title shot to the winner of Whyte vs Povetkin.

Another Brit, the interim champion Dillian Whyte, will defend his strap against Alexander Povetkin on August 22. Both Fury and Whyte are deemed to be the favorites in their upcoming fights.

Thus, it is safe to say that the Englishmen are all set to dominate the WBC Heavyweight scenario for the time being.

Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua has been the WBA, WBO, IBO, and IBF Heavyweight champion. He is slated to take on against Kubrat Pulev next.
