Anthony Joshua is heading into a high-stakes bout against Kubrat Pulev. Not only is it his first title defense after winning the belt in his last fight, but it also may decide whether he and Tyson Fury ever meet inside the ring. The fight against Pulev has been long-awaited, with the two initially slated to fight in 2017.
Ever since that initial booking, AJ has become one of the biggest names in boxing. But, he was on the wrong side of history when he was beaten by Andy Ruiz Jr. in their first encounter. Many drew parallels with Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson all those years ago. However, AJ came back strong in the rematch and regained the titles. He has opened up on how he dealt with the fallout of that fight.

“After my loss in New York, I wanted to work on certain things. But when things are going well, it is like keep working on your strengths. So, a lot of what people say are my weaknesses are strengths I haven’t identified yet… I enhance them, I improve them and after all, now I have got a smooth layer. There’s not many chinks in my armor.”
Anthony Joshua ready to avoid any upsets
Considering how hard big losses are for fighters, it would be a basic assumption that they will pull out all the stops to ensure they don’t lose. Joshua lost a fight he shouldn’t have on a big stage and has been mocked endlessly for it.
When he says he doesn’t have chinks in his armor, one must think back to his overconfidence heading into the Ruiz fight. However, the way he said it this time shows that he is a lot more grounded. Heading into the fight against Pulev, it will be exciting to see how he deals with him.
