  1. Somehow, the most interesting aspect of boxing currently is the back-and-forth between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul. The surprising news came up a few weeks ago, when ‘The Problem Child’ called out the former heavyweight champion, only for the latter to reach out to him. The matchup even got the backing of His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, and for a while, the fight looked certain.

However, in recent hours, multiple developments have swiftly dimmed the prospects of this anticipated matchup. At first, it was Eddie Hearn himself, and now AJ’s trainer, Ben Davison, has shared his thoughts, and he does not seem pleased with the prospect.

Jake Paul needs to choose his battles wisely

Recently, speaking to Boxing Scene, Davison expressed his shock over the fact that people are even considering this fight. “I don’t like all that. First and foremost, how can people even talk about that? Two, where’s the safety aspect in boxing? Do you know what I mean? That is a serious risk with something going wrong,” he said, claiming that Jake Paul could get seriously injured.

Given ‘El Gallo’s current boxing record, Davison’s concerns are valid. The YouTuber-turned-boxer has not fought a single active boxer in his career. So, directly taking on a former heavyweight champion who can still claim to be one of the very best is seriously dangerous. The trainer believes that by the time people realize that fact, it might be too late.

“Unfortunately, it might take something like that for people to be like, ‘Hold on, we’ve got to reconfigure this’. But somebody would pass it; somebody would allow it; somebody would sanction it,” he concluded. Davison’s remarks have cast doubt on this potential fight, deflating Jake Paul’s high hopes and overconfidence.

However, it is not the only problem that this fantasy influencer-boxer matchup is facing right now. Recently, Eddie Hearn, who was on board with the plan, also came forward with a completely different tone.

Anthony Joshua’s team is backing out

A few weeks ago, the Matchroom honcho was the first one who claim that Paul-Joshua might actually happen. However, in a recent conversation with Boxing Social, the Brit revealed a new update that has almost finished that possibility. Jake Paul wants $40 million to fight Anthony Joshua. It’s not happening,” Hearn stated bluntly. He stated that Jake Paul’s financial demands are unrealistic, echoing Davison’s concerns about the significant risks this fight poses for him.

This is indeed a surprise revelation, when HE Alalshikh revealed that the 28-year-old was ready to take a 99-1 split in favor of Anthony Joshua. However, it seems his demands have completely changed. Furthermore, that is not the only thing that Hearn is concerned with right now. “I don’t believe Jake Paul is serious. I don’t trust that he would take the fight. I think Francis Ngannou would destroy him, let alone AJ,” he added.

British heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora, while praising Paul for bringing younger fans to boxing, has publicly advised Paul not to fight Joshua, warning that a skilled and stronger opponent like Joshua would likely overwhelm him and derail his momentum. Meanwhile, Rolly Romero, a rising boxer, has gone even further—publishing a bold prediction that Paul could knock out Joshua, amid social‑media talk of rigging and extreme confidence vs. conventional gatekeepers

The Matchroom promoter claimed that AJ’s return in December is confirmed. However, with the way things are progressing right now, Jake Paul won’t be a part of it. Well, given the fact that a clash between a YouTuber-turned-boxer against a former heavyweight champion would be nothing but a mockery of the sport, it is for the best.
