“Anthony Joshua Still Has a Contract”- Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Cannot Happen Before Kubrat Pulev Fight Says Bob Arum

In a recent interview with World Boxing News, Bob Arum shared his thoughts on Tyson Fury’s immediate future. Arum feels organizing a fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury in the aftermath of a global pandemic is too big a challenge. In addition, they may have to start looking for alternative opponents.

A contract binds Fury to battle Wilder for the third and last time. However, the lack of spectators and travel issues make organizing this match-up inconceivable.

Since Fury and Anthony Joshua are in the same country, pitting them against each other in a fight seems more practical. However, there are a lot of wrinkles that need to be ironed out before one can even start thinking about this fight.

Kubrat Pulev is looking to take on Joshua and he may not be so willing to withdraw from the fight for Fury. However, even this match-up has logistical problems considering how Pulev is still in Bulgaria.

“We’re going to have to figure out whether Eddie has the angle to do a Joshua vs Pulev fight. I don’t think he can do it without an audience. Does he move it to some other place?” said Bob Arum

Bob Arum Talks Venues

Arum confirms that Saudi Arabia was a potential location for a fight between Fury and Joshua.

“There was a lot of talk about a Fury vs Joshua fight taking place in Saudi Arabia. But with oil selling at almost zero a barrel, how are the Saudis going to afford a big event?” However, the Middle East comes with its own set of problems.

The Top Rank boss confirms that any fight for Fury other than the Joshua fight will have to take place in the United States.

“But for Fury, except for a Joshua fight, any Tyson Fury fight happens in the United States. The Joshua fight I could possibly see being in the UK or maybe some Middle East location. But we’ll have to see. Again, Joshua still has a contract and obligation to fight Pulev, so how’s he going to get around that?” said Bob Arum

If all else fails, Fury may wait for a fight with Wilder early next year.

“It depends on a lot of things. One this is for sure, Fury belongs in the United States. He’s built up a tremendous, tremendous audience here. If the travel ban is lifted or is not as stringent, I would bring Fury over here to fight in a less-expensive fight than a Wilder fight. Maybe we could even do the Wilder fight. But somehow we would have to get it financed.” says Arum as he searches for a viable solution.

Who do you think Tyson Fury’s next fight will be against?
