There have been long drawn talks about the highly anticipated rematch between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. There has been a recent update revealing the postponement of the potential fight date.

The rematch showdown between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk was delayed due to the ongoing tensions in the latter’s home country, Ukraine. However, it was recently reported that the targeted date for the fight is August 20. The fight was initially scheduled to take place on July 23. Albeit, Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, had later announced that the fight might be pushed ahead to mid-August over broadcasting issues.

Moreover, it is said to take place at the Jeddah Super Dome in Saudi Arabia. Notably, the Jeddah Super Dome is a state-of-the-art arena that is, in fact, the largest geodesic dome in the world.

Joshua will be fighting to reclaim his WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles from Usyk.

The Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk showdown

Anthony Joshua reclaimed his titles on December 7, 2019. He had previously lost them to Andy Ruiz Jr. Post this victory, Joshua defended his titles against IBF mandatory challenger, Kubrat Pulev on December 12, 2020.

He was later scheduled to fight Tyson Fury on August 14, 2021. However, the fight did not materialize, as Fury had to fight his third rematch against Deontay Wilder.

The WBO later instructed Joshua to face the mandatory challenger, Usyk. The duo faced each other at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

Joshua showcased a stellar performance during the fight. However, Usyk’s technical prowess turned out to be far superior.

At the end of 12 rounds, Usyk was declared the winner by decision. Moreover, in victory, he claimed Joshua’s WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles.

In fact, Usyk became the third boxer in history, the other two being Evander Holyfield and David Haye, to win both the cruiserweight and heavyweight world titles.
