Boxing fans desperately await the mighty British clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury this year. Not just the biggest heavyweight battle, but this fight will be the most magnetic event of this era. But the fight’s future seems uncertain as Oleksandr Usyk, the heavyweight contender, is keen on gaining his, what many believe, rightfully deserved title shot.

Usyk has no intention of awaiting his turn before he goes for the heavyweight strap. ‘AJ’ currently bags the WBO title and is looking to unify his belts against Fury rather than fighting any other opponent for now.

Oleksandr Usyk’s manager reveals his plans ahead of Joshua vs Tyson Fury

Alexander Krassyuk, his promoter, asserted that the southpaw is interested in going for the title shot rather than waiting for ‘AJ’ vs Fury to happen.

In a chat with Boxing Scene, he said, “As for today, Usyk is the WBO mandatory and never gave his consent for the [Joshua vs Fury] bout to happen without him. Usyk is in good condition now.

“He successfully recovered from his last fight and looks forward to fight challenge the title this spring. A non-title fight has never been under discussion, and I really hope it will never be.”

In his last outing, Usyk defeated Dereck Chisora by a unanimous decision. The Ukrainian boxer is undefeated in his professional run with 18 wins.

If Joshua doesn’t go for the mandatory challenge against Usyk, he might have to vacate his WBO heavyweight title. With Usyk determined to take the fight as soon as possible, it seems ‘AJ’ will have to confront him ahead of Fury.

‘AJ’ vs ‘Gypsy King’ was targeted for mid-2021. But it seems Oleksandr Usyk coming into the picture will halt this fight for a while. Joshua and his promotions will have to convince Usyk to step aside and let the biggest battle happen.

However, if the Ukrainian boxer doesn’t agree, the all-British clash might get pushed for year-end.
