Former unified lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez was strutting his way upward in the world of boxing. However, he suffered his first and only defeat until now last year, when he fought against Australian boxer George Kambosos Jr. But there had been speculations that something happened during the fight, which led to Lopez’s loss.

Teofimo Lopez recently appeared on MMAFightingonSBN, where he discussed his clash with George Kambosos Jr. He revealed that he had air in his neck, which further went through his heart, which affected his performance.
Lopez stated, “But I got to remind everyone that this actually happened after the weigh-ins. I went to eat at an Italian restaurant. I don’t want to name the name because you know. However, because that’s just who I am. I think it was just a sauce after losing all that weight and cutting that much, I was just so dehydrated that I didn’t have no magnesium in me, I didn’t have no vitamin D in me.”
Lopez further added that he tried to hydrate his body, but it wasn’t sufficient as he had lost weight. Nevertheless, now he is looking forward to an interesting battle this weekend.
Teofimo Lopez returns to the ring this weekend
Since his defeat to Kambosos Jr., Lopez will be fighting for the second time. He held the IBF lightweight championship after defeating Richard Commey. Thereafter, he won the WBA and WBA belt by defeating Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko. But in 2021, he was defeated by Kambosos Jr. and lost every belt.

‘The Takeover’ defeated Pedro Campa in his latest contest. Now he will be seen against Sandor Martin on December 10th. The fight is going to take place at the Mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden in New York City. There, he won his first world championship, and he hopes to outperform his upcoming opponents here.

Apparently, Lopez was supposed to lock horns with Jose Pedraza. However, Martin came as a replacement for Pedraza as the latter withdrew from the bout. The Spanish boxer has a stellar 40-2-0 record and could be a tough challenge for Lopez. But only time will tell how this fight plays out.
