Things are pretty murky when it comes to Ryan Garcia’s mental health. Is he faking it? Or Ryan Garcia needs professional help? No one quite knows. In the past couple of months, the Victorville native has been criticized for his erratic, often unsubstantiated posts on social media, leading many to believe Garcia has gone cuckoo. However, Oscar De La Hoya was never worried!

At least that’s what he has claimed while appearing in an interview with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour. During last night’s final weigh-ins, Garcia didn’t just miss weight but also got into a verbal altercation with an audience member. Not to mention, Garcia isn’t eligible for the WBC super lightweight title anymore. So, the question is why Garcia’s promoter isn’t worried about his star fighter?

Oscar De La Hoya confirms, “Ryan knows what he’s doing”

Speaking to ‘Golden Boy,’ the MMA journalist quickly probed him about Garcia’s concerning behavior lately, asking him whether he was ever worried. In response, Oscar quickly blurted out, “No!” He further elaborated on his point, “I mean, obviously, when he was talking about the whole situation with the kids and this and that. It wasn’t really explained good enough. That was concerning.”

However, despite all that, Oscar said, “But look, I’m not his babysitter. I’m his promoter. I’m not with him 24/7, but he gets it, man.” Yet, donning a supporting promoter’s hat, Oscar defended his fighter by highlighting the P. Diddy situation. “I mean, it was ironic how all this news came out afterwards about P. Diddy and this and that. So, I don’t know. I mean, look, Ryan knows what he’s doing. I think he does,” said ‘The Golden Boy.’

He chalked up Garcia’s behavior, suggesting, “He knows what he’s doing and if he cares for a subject that he wants to talk about, he’s going to go all out.” In the meantime, Ryan Garcia roped in legendary Mike Tyson while speaking about his mental health.

Ryan Garcia acknowledges, “I’m a little f**king mental”

During the recent open workout, Ryan Garcia went all in addressing his critics, who have pointed fingers at his mental health alleging drug abuse. Not just that! The Victorville native even compared himself to Mike Tyson, underscoring people don’t criticize Tyson for the same. “Yeah, I’m a little f**king mental, but I’m ready to destroy a motherf**ker,” Garcia began.

“Y’all weren’t talking s**t about Mike Tyson when he was like this; y’all respect him now, right? Okay, then, so you’re going to respect me? I have seen some s**t I should have never seen, but I’m a killer,” Garcia told Dan Canobbio. Let’s not forget, Mike Tyson has been open about his struggles with anger management and depression. Something he dealt with by using drugs.

In a nutshell, despite all the criticism and concerns, Ryan Garcia will fight Devin Haney tonight on DAZN! And in case Garcia defies the odds to beat Haney, it would be hard for his critics to defend their criticism of Garcia. However, only time will tell what happens. What do you think about Garcia’s mental health?
