Ryan Garcia might have been the one who won the fight! However, his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, is the one who is overflowing with joy and pride. Last weekend, ‘King Ry’ did what many claimed was impossible when he delivered a brutal beating to his career rival, Devin Haney!

By doing so, Garcia defied the odds to win the fight via majority decision, which led to Oscar De La Hoya publicly flaming Haney’s promoter Eddie Hearn on social media. However, it seems like Oscar’s actions just backfired on him, as fans held up a mirror to show ‘Golden Boy’ the reality of the situation on X yesterday.

On April 23, two days after the fight, the head of Matchroom Boxing hopped on Instagram, showcasing a heartfelt moment he shared with Haney. Hearn had posted a picture of the duo together, embracing each other after Haney’s loss. He captioned the post, “The road is long. This young man will be back stronger than ever!”

Despite this harmless display of support for his fighter, Oscar De La Hoya jumped in with a stinging response. He commented on the post, “You obviously never laced up the gloves. Just like Don King and the rest. You don’t know what it’s like to fight inside a ring. Guess what? I do, and that beating will last for a while.”

This seems to have rubbed the fans the wrong way when talkSport editor Michael Benson shared a screen grab of the comment on X yesterday. So, they quickly took to the comment section to berate De La Hoya for his behavior.

Fan thinks Oscar’s behavior is “F**king disgusting”

Seeing the situation unfold, some highlighted the hypocrisy, while others outright reminded Oscar of his past with Garcia. One user speculated that since Oscar was stirring up drama with Garcia’s win, what he would do if Jaime Munguia defeated Canelo Alvarez. Munguia is, of course, Oscar’s fighter and Canelo used to be, as they separated after a legal battle regarding Canelo’s contract. The former promoter-fighter can’t seem to stand each other today.

Another user reminded Oscar about Garcia’s loss to Gervonta Davis, especially since he wasn’t there to support Garcia. In fact, this very thing had started a feud between Garcia and Oscar, which had made headlines for months.

Even the next user echoed the same sentiment as he reminded Oscar of his past mistake. However, today Garcia and Oscar are on the same page, having hashed off their differences.

Someone else thought Oscar’s comment on Haney was strange. The user even branded Oscar a strange guy. This might be because Garcia himself suffered a career-altering loss at the hands of ‘Tank’ Davis, but he managed to come back in a big way.

The next user praised Hearn for supporting his fighters while bashing Oscar for not doing the same when Garcia lost his fight to ‘Tank.’ Interestingly, the beef between Garcia and Oscar had gotten so bad that Garcia had banned Oscar from entering his locker room during the Oscar Duarte fight late last year.

Despite being on the winning side, Oscar De La Hoya managed to get the wrong end of public favor due to his comment on Haney and Hearn. However, the question is, can Devin Haney come back from that kind of loss? Only time will tell! Until then, what are your thoughts?
