Former boxing champion turned promoter Barry McGuigan has offered his advice to Chris Eubank Jr. The Irishman made a bold claim, saying Gennady Golovkin would be the best fight for the Englishman.
Eubank Jr has already expressed his desire to fight the Kazakh despite being in line to face WBA champion, Ryota Murata. This would undoubtedly be a tremendous fight and could put the Englishman back on the top of the sport.
Speaking to the Mirror, McGuigan said Eubank Jr had a better chance against ‘GGG’, Murata, and Charlo. However, he would struggle to beat Demetrius Andrade since he has to initiate attacks more often. Despite this, he said Golovkin would be the best of the lot.
“IBF king GGG is a good fight for him. He’s 38 years old now. No matter how good you are, after the number of fights he has had as an amateur and pro, he is not getting better,” said McGuigan.
He explained the significance of a fight with ‘GGG’ and said, “Victory over GGG opens the door to big unification bouts.”
Golovkin is fresh off his 21st career title defense against Kamil Szeremeta. In the fight, ‘GGG’ looked sharp and powerful. However, Eubank Jr would surely pose a tougher test than the Polish fighter. So, will it really be a good fight?
The Englishman has not fought since December 2019; however, he has been training with legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr. Therefore, we could see a new look Eubank Jr. Undoubtedly talented, he surely has the tools to beat Gennady Golovkin.
Despite this, Golovkin has experience and discipline on his side. Furthermore, they are two of the biggest names in the middleweight division. Thus, these aspects make this a good fight for fans.
Eubank Jr has never been knocked out in his career, and ‘Triple G’ is known for his power. Fans know the Englishman for his movement, while the Kazakh is famous for walking down his opponent. Thus, Barry McGuigan is right in saying that this would be a good fight for all parties.
Do you think ‘GGG’ would be an easy fight for Chris Eubank Jr?
