“Be the Last of the Dying Breed”: Shakur Stevenson Sheds Light on Fighting Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney

Shakur Stevenson is one of the most promising names in the sport of boxing. Moreover, he is also a world champion in two weight classes. Stevenson is currently preparing to face Robson Conceicao on September 23, 2022. Apart from this upcoming fight, Stevenson also expressed his desire to fight Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney.

Stevenson was talking at the ‘Last Stand Podcast‘ hosted by Brian Custer. In conversation, Custer asked him about the big money fights in the lightweight division involving fighters like Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, and Gervonta Davis. Custer asked Stevenson, “Which one of those guys interest you the most?”

In response, Stevenson praised both Haney and Davis for their performances inside the ring. He mentioned that ‘Tank’ Davis earned his respect by his knockout performances. On the contrary, he added Haney gained newfound respect in him after a stellar performance against George Kambosos Jr.

Further, Stevenson also spoke about the parallels between Davis, Haney and himself, stating that they are the best fighters in the sport. He said, “At the end of the day, we all black young fighters and I like to see them win and I hope they like to see me win too.”

Moreover, talking about fighting the duo, he said, “It would be better for us to take care of all the other competition and then be the last of the dying breeds.”

Additionally, he also mentioned that he has witnessed the rise of both the fighters and that he is happy to see the level they are at.

Shakur Stevenson was last seen in the ring on April 30, 2022. Moreover, he defended his WBO super featherweight title against Oscar Valdez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada. Additionally, he also won the WBC and vacant The Ring super featherweight titles.

Stevenson will face Robson Conceicao at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The formidable Brazilian has an impressive record. And it is certain that Stevenson will have to work really hard to defend his titles.
