Lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez has just received high praise from legendary boxer Mike Tyson. The newly crowned champion is still fresh from his victory. However, he has another accolade to show for his works.
‘The Takeover’ joined Tyson on his podcast, ‘Hotboxin with Mike Tyson’. Despite the episode not being released as yet, fans have already got a snippet of what happened. Furthermore, this episode revealed what Mike Tyson thinks of the champion.
Lopez shared a post on his social media, which showed both him and his father with ‘Iron Mike’. Furthermore, we could see that ‘The Takeover’ got his WBC belt signed by Tyson with a special message. “To Teofimo: The best fighter in the world! – @miketyson”
This could well be the best of his accolades so far. The undefeated champion has referred to himself as the best on multiple occasions, now he has Tyson among his admirers. What will make this sweeter is that it comes just after Ryan Garcia appeared on the show without receiving such praise.
Just like Tyson, Lopez also hails from the tough neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Thus, when Lopez beat Lomachenko in October, Mike Tyson had a lot of good things to say about the Brooklyn born champion. However, does the 23-year-old have what it takes to match Mike Tyson?
Although Tyson fought at heavyweight and Lopez at lightweight, there are a few similarities between them. Like Tyson, Lopez took a fight no one wanted. Also, he has a great deal of power for his division that could set him apart from the rest of the pack.
Furthermore, ‘The Takeover’ is also outspoken and does not shy away from the limelight. He wants to fight the best and all this is before he has even turned 25. Therefore, we could see Teofimo Lopez because a household name just like Mike Tyson was in his day.
