The beef between Canelo Alvarez and his former promoter Oscar De La Hoya resulted in their separation. However, was it a wise decision? Absolutely, at least that’s what the CEO of Mayweather Promotions Leonard Ellerbe thinks. Since their separation back in 2020, Canelo and Oscar came face-to-face for the first time! Why?

Well, Canelo is about to fight Oscar’s fighter, Jaime Munguia, in an all-Mexican showdown on Cinco de Mayo weekend at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Regardless, when the retired world champion shared his predictions for the fight recently, Ellerbe responded by reminding him of the best decision Canelo made while also sharing his own prediction for the fight on social media!

So, like, Ellerbe totally hopped on X to clap back at this post about Oscar’s fight prediction. Now every grandma and their grandbabies know Ellerbe has been in the game all his life, so he knew the reality of Oscar and Canelo’s disagreement. He thus, wrote, “[Canelo] doesn’t want to be around [Oscar] because he knows that he’s a horrible person.”

Canelo and Oscar’s dynamics have gone into the smelly drains, everyone knows that. So much so that, even Canelo suggested Oscar isn’t the best promoter one could have. Canelo had previously suggested that De La Hoya was someone who would run after the spotlight himself. Regardless, Ellerbe added, “The best thing Canelo has done in his career was to get as far away from him as possible.”

One thing to note here is, Canelo and Oscar said bye-bye after Oscar allegedly breached their sacred contract. Some reports also revealed that Oscar was impressing on DAZN Boxing things that Canelo was never obliged to do. That aside, Ellerbe shared his own prediction for the fight. He wrote, “Canelo KO’s Munguia inside the distance this Saturday and Oscar knows that!!”

However, what is it that Oscar De La Hoya said to elicit such a response from Ellerbe?

Oscar De La Hoya says there will be a “Changing of the guard” after the Canelo Alvarez fight

To a media house, the ‘Golden Boy’ spoke generously about the fight on the horizon. When the reporter asked Oscar about Munguia’s chances against Canelo, De La Hoya replied, “He’s a beast. Changing of the guard, baby. Changing of the guard. Let’s go.”

So, ‘Golden Boy’ isn’t too enthusiastic about the things his former fighter has said about him. “Canelo talking all this s*** – that’s all it is. It’s s***. The fact that he can’t be around me because the attention is off him – that’s a big thing for him and it f**** with his head. I don’t understand it because he’s a great fighter. I respect him as a fighter, but I don’t respect him as a person,” said Oscar De La Hoya.

Whether or not it was a wise decision to part ways with De La Hoya is Canelo’s prerogative, but as far as Ellerbe is concerned, it was the best decision in his eyes. Forget about that for a moment, and ask, what’s going to happen on May 4? Does the underdog stand a chance?
