David Benavidez, the two-time WBC super-middleweight champion, became the talk of the town after his recent showdown with David Lemieux. Benavidez was in command from the start of the match, indicating that he would be the clear winner. He ended up winning the bout and now the boxing world is finding a suitable match-up for the giant. Here’s what veteran trainer Teddy Atlas had to say.

In a recent episode of ‘THE FIGHT with Teddy Atlas’, the discussion went on to decide on a suitable opponent for David Benavidez. Co-host Ken Rideout suggested, “What about Caleb Plant? Or even Saunders?”

Atlas instantly interrupted saying, “No, no, no, please. Because the same thing I, if I could tell you before the fight, having Saunders was gonna get knocked out, which I did. He was gonna get knocked out by Canelo. Then I could tell you the same thing about what’s going to happen with Benavidez. They are not strong enough, they are not equipped to be able to deal with a guy of Benavidez’s abilities, size, strength, everything that he brings into the ring. It’s not competitive.”

Perhaps, the veteran trainer believes that Caleb Plant and Billy Joe Saunders are not competitive enough for the undefeated ‘El Bandera Roja’.
