Bob Arum, the name is synonymous with boxing, and with the ever-changing transitions in the sport, Arum has also evolved through it, becoming one of the greatest promoters ever to have lived. The 88-year-old former Attorney of the US Justice had no such reasons to enter the boxing market. However, it was one smart decision that changed his life and built the Top Rank promotions, eventually sheltering several champions of boxing.

In 1962, Arum was involved with the monetary assignments for the heavyweight title fight between Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson. During that time, he met CCTV veteran Lester M. Malitz and planted the seeds of his promotional career. But he still didn’t have any plans of entering the business.

According to Sportscasting, Arum left the US justice department in 1963 and reconnected with Malitz two years later. Meanwhile, Malitz was struggling to promote the fight, and that’s when Arum came in handy. Bob Arum helped him negotiate deals for television broadcasting, and the smart man soon realized that he could be a pioneer in the boxing business.

Meanwhile, in 1973, Arum formed the Top Rank Promotions alongside Jabir Herbert Muhammad. Operating from Las Vegas, Top Rank became one of the biggest promotions in the sport. While Arum already had his success in the boxing world, Top Rank doubled the numbers in the future.
