This was news that fans were waiting for as Spence Jr and Crawford are easily the two best welterweights in the division. However, even though both fighters are coming off victories, neither showed an active desire to fight each other.

Despite this, Bob Arum has now addressed the situation. Speaking to the Barbershop Conversation on YouTube, Arum said, “I’m pretty sure that in talking to Al Haymon, we can get that fight done.”

This statement in itself would have been enough to excite fans.

However, the promoter explained what makes it an easy fight to make. “It’s the only fight that makes sense, that anybody’s gonna make any money with. So I’m pretty sure we can get that fight done,” said Arum.

Though the promoter said it would be easy to make the fight, he remained reserved on the timeline and gave his explanation for it.

“But again, again, let me just tell you, from a promoter’s standpoint, the people who have to raise the money for the fight, that fight can’t happen and other big fights can’t happen until the pandemic is gone…”

Arum also pointed to the fact that they would need all the additional streams of revenue like the gate, restaurants, bars and other fight day revenue. If they make this fight during the pandemic, they will end up losing all of this.

Therefore, the promoter re-iterated the importance of having this fight after the pandemic. However, this may not be as long as people suspect.

Fights in the US have already had fans in the thousands. Furthermore, the news suggests that the vaccination is already in full swing and could reach the vast majority over the course of the next few months. Thus, it could be on course to happen in June of this year.
