Despite having his differences with the WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford, Bob Arum is still favoring him over Errol Spence Jr. in a possible matchup.

The 88-year-old believes, ‘Bud’ will dismantle ‘The Truth’ if they ever square-off inside the ring. However, Arum and Crawford and are currently in a contractual turmoil which might force ‘Bud’ to accept the matchup against Spence Jr. under a different banner.

Errol Spence Jr. defended his unified welterweight titles (WBC, IBF) against Danny Garcia, and Terence Crawford defended his WBO title against Kell Brook. So, their possible title unification fight is relevant on the charts.

However, Arum doesn’t see it happening. He has blamed Errol Spence Jr and accused the champion of accepting easy money fights. In an interaction with The Athletic, Arum posed his opinion on the welterweight title fight.

The Top Rank CEO said, “He doesn’t want to do the fight. And why should he do the fight, in his position, if he can grab money fighting guys he doesn’t have a problem beating?… We want to make that fight with Spence, but again, it takes two to tango. Spence is hiding behind Al Haymon.”

Both the welterweight champions are unbeaten and in their prime. They have overcome every in-ring adversary and are out of legitimate challengers. Hence, there’s no other fight that makes more sense than this. It will determine the better champion between them and will also open the gateway for several other matches in the future.

It’s common in boxing to see two uneaten champions avoid each other for a long time, but its high time fans Crawford and Spence Jr. collide inside the ring.
