Top Rank’s Bob Arum has fired back at Shawn Porter’s demands for more money. The promoter stood firm in his valuation of the fighters and explained why he offered only how much he did. This will not impress Porter at all.

These comments come after Porter revealed that Arum has offered him $1 million to fight Terence Crawford. ‘Showtime’ felt he was worth more than that and claimed Arum’s valuation of he insulted him.

Speaking to the Barbershop Conversation on YouTube, Arum replied, “I read some place that he felt I had insulted him by only offering him a million dollars. I’m old fashioned. I don’t know why a million dollars would be an insult to anybody.”

The promoter then stood firm and said, “I’m not guaranteeing more than a million dollars. I’m just not. Not in these times.”

Thus, these comments showed that if Porter wants a shot at the title, he has to compromise on his demands.

Why does Bob Arum have to defend himself from accusations?

This is not the first time the promoter has been in the limelight for alleged scrounging. He made the headlines in November when he publicly questioned his own fighter, Terence Crawford’s ability to sell the fight. It was an event that drew criticism from many people.

More recently, Keith Thurman also went on a rant about Arum’s promotion. He called him the worst promoter in the game and said his fighters have all left him with ‘Bud’ to follow soon.

Porter is the WBO mandatory for Crawford and is also a big-name fighter. He is a former unified champion and has fought the likes of Errol Spence Jr. Therefore, you would think that it would be an easy decision to make this fight happen.

However, Arum looks like he will remain stubborn on his offer for the fight. Thus, if Shawn Porter is looking to become a welterweight champion again, he is going to have to compromise on the money. What do you make of Bob Arum’s comments? Do you think Shawn Porter deserves more money?
