After Canelo filed a lawsuit of $280 million against his promoters for breach of contract, he was reportedly offered a new deal. Being Golden Boy’s biggest active superstar, Oscar De La Hoya didn’t want to miss out on Canelo Alvarez. Thus, they have offered $20 million per fight and he will also get to select his opponent along with the promoters.

However, that hasn’t stopped De La Hoya’s competitors from demeaning him. Since the news of their recent dispute is still fresh, Bob Arum has jumped into the mix by stating how Golden Boy and DAZN have failed to give Canelo a platform.

Speaking with IFL TV, Arum said, “I haven’t seen the contracts but what it seems to me is that the DAZN entered into a contract with Golden Boy and Golden Boy entered into [a] contract with Canelo and the two contracts don’t match.”

“Also, DAZN went into the United States with big ideas and big thoughts, but they made a fundamental error and the error was that you couldn’t build a streaming sports platform that people would have to pay a monthly fee for, just on boxing. Couldn’t do it.”

Big Drama Show: Bob Arum weighs in on Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 3

Canelo and Golovkin gave us two of the biggest blockbusters in boxing history when they squared off against each other. The first contest ended in a controversial draw. However, Canelo beat GGG in the rematch.

Despite that, Bob Arum said that Canelo didn’t want to face Golovkin. The US promoter said that Golden Boy wanted to set up Canelo against GGG, citing another reason for their recent dispute.

“Canelo was an attraction, so they paid Canelo a foolishly large amount of money which never made sense, particularly since Canelo had one fight that would have attracted a lot of subscribers.

“And that was the Golovkin fight and Canelo never agreed to the Golovkin fight, Golden Boy agreed, so at that point a schism between all of them,” said Arum.

Meanwhile, Canelo and Golden Boy are trying to find a way out of their tussle. They might come to an agreement soon. After that, we can see the Mexican gladiator return to action inside the ring again.
