What’s the best way for a boxer to earn money? By trading punches, right? Well, that’s exactly what Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach will aim to do when the duo faces each other on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on the PBC-Amazon Prime PPV card. While the pair have faced each other multiple times in the amateur circuit, this is the fight that really matters.

This is especially true for Roach, as a win against Tank will not only improve his professional record but might change his boxing career completely. On the other hand, a blemish on his perfect 30-0 record will hurt Gervonta Davis, something he would like to avoid, given this might be his last year in boxing. However, before worrying about the future, let’s take a look at what the duo is expected to make for this fight.

How much will Gervonta Davis earn against Lamont Roach Jr.?

While the exact payday for the March 1 fight of Baltimorean is under wraps, we can make an assumption based on his previous fights. Reportedly, Davis has been earning a 7-figure guaranteed payday for a while now. Moreover, given his towering stature in every fight, he secures the majority of PPV shares as well.

For his fight against Isaac Cruz in 2021, he reportedly earned $1 million in guaranteed purse with a 50% share of the pay-per-view buys. He followed that up by securing a whopping $5 million overall payday against Rolando Romero the next year. His guaranteed payout was reduced when he faced Hector Luis Garcia the next year. Yet, he still took home $1.5 million in guaranteed purse with a 60-40 PPV split.

However, nothing can ever come close to what he earned against Ryan Garcia a few months later. Reports suggest that Gervonta Davis earned over $50 million as the fight generated an overall revenue of $100 million. While matching the Garcia payout can be quite hard, the 30-year-old earned an impressive payout against Frank Martin as well last year. With a guaranteed purse of $2 million, Tank’s total payout was expected to be around $10 million.

Despite Gervonta Davis being one of the biggest names in the boxing world, evidently, his purse size largely depends on the opponents he is facing. Against Lamont Roach, we can expect him to earn a similar 7-figure guaranteed payday with the total profit reaching the 8-figure mark.

On the other hand, the Barclays clash might give the WBA super featherweight champion his highest-ever payday.

Lamont Roach Jr.’s fight purse against Gervonta Davis

Like Gervonta Davis, the Washington native’s purse is also under wraps till now. Moreover, reportedly, Roach’s biggest payday to date came last year against Feargal McCrory, where he earned $200,000 in guaranteed purse. Previously, the Hector Luis Garcia fight in 2023 got him $102,500 in guaranteed purse.

In both instances, Roach’s overall payout has not been revealed. However, it is expected that Gervonta Davis would be the one to take the majority of the PPV share. In a similar fashion to his previous fights, we can expect a 60-40 split.

Moreover, the duo has been trading barbs against each other on social media for a few months now. With the fight being postponed multiple times and the fact of Gervonta Davis’ retirement looming over, this event might attract more PPV buys than Tank’s last bout against Frank Martin, which managed to do around 800,000 PPV buys. This would certainly mean that Lamont Roach Jr’s share would touch the seven-figure mark.

If that happens, it will definitely be Lamont Roach’s highest every payday. On the other hand, even Gervonta Davis would be quite pleased. Now that we have an approximation regarding their payouts, the real question remains: who takes the win? Drop your predictions in the comments!
