But rather, the presence of boxing icons links their legacy to the soil they were born on. These characteristics add to the beauty of the sport. And, it is safe to say that a true testament to a boxing icon’s legacy is when they are able to inspire the kids from their hometown to follow in their footsteps. Such is the story of Boxing Legend Pernell Whittaker and his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia.

Two young boxing stars hailing from the city of Norfolk have made headlines after winning Gold in a boxing event in Detroit. And they have added to the legacy and history of the city. The two young champs have stories of their own and of their relation to the sport. And how they began spending time inside the boxing ring. And, it seems like Whittaker’s legacy lives on as it continues to inspire these young stars.

Young champs bring laurels to Norfolk

Josiah Garden and Issac Meeks have made headlines after winning gold medals in their respective weight divisions at a boxing event in Detroit, Michigan. Garden fights in the 70 lbs weight division, and Meeks fights in the 85 lbs. And, as reported by 13newsnow, these two are reportedly the top contenders in their respective weight divisions.

These two train at a common boxing gym called A Breed Above Boxing Club. However, these two are looking for other alternatives nearby. Moreover, these two have unique stories of their own regarding the reason they started boxing. For Garden, he couldn’t play tackle football. And ended up going to a boxing ring. But he realized that he loved it. For Meeks, his father was his motivation to start boxing. And is still one of his biggest supporters.

Whittaker put Norfolk on the map with his thrilling performances. And his legacy lives on years after his death. And, it is safe to say that this young talent is playing their part in adding to the legacy of the late boxer. Whittaker’s decision to become a professional boxer led to the beginning of a new boxing scene in the state of Virginia. Whittaker is one of the few who gave Floyd Mayweather Jr a hard time.
