From rapping in a car with an orangutan giving him company to teaching a woman boxing skills at a Dubai mall, Ryan Garcia continues with his easy going lifestyle. However, in the back of his mind, the results of his B sample must be weighing on him. Asserting his innocence from any sort of wrongdoing, the young boxer had placed a request to test his B samples earlier this month. It followed reports of him returning positive test results for ‘Ostarine’-based on samples (A) taken a day before and on the day of the fight with Devin Haney.

A secondary test of the A sample cleared him of a nandrolone metabolite: 19-Norandrosterone. Many believed that the results of the tests done on the B sample would be known by May 22. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Many fans and followers eagerly await some updates on the matter. So New York-based boxing matchmaker Rick Glaser shed some light on the matter to make it a bit more clear.

Still in Suspense

The New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) inductee tweeted that fans will have to wait for at least one more week. Relevant information on Ryan Garcia’s B sample should make an appearance around that time. “To those looking on the internet for the #RyanGarcia B Sample results today, the results will not be confirmed for one week,” Glaser said.

Further adding, “Today simply is thee opening of Garcia’s B Sample. Hope this helps.” An ESPN article citing Garcia’s lawyer had shared that on May 22, the B sample would be ‘opened and analyzed.’

Dan Rafael shared a similar report. However, he said that there’s a good chance that the results might take a bite more time than a week. He said, “Per source, Ryan Garcia’s B sample was opened today with his representative on hand to observe. Will take at least couple of days for results, but certainly possible it could stretch into early next week due to the weekend & holiday. I’ll let ya know when they’re in.

So basically, a B sample is a sort of confirmation of the A sample results. It removes all the doubts over the possibilities of ‘lab contamination’. Then, whether any sort of error might have occurred when the A sample returned a positive result becomes apparent. Hence, if the B sample returns a negative outcome, then it will vindicate Ryan Garcia’s stance on the charges. But what happens if the B sample also returns a positive?

Just like the A sample, if the B sample also confirms the presence of ‘Ostarine’, then it would be on Ryan Garcia to prove his innocence. In parallel, actions that begin with his match against Devin Haney being declared a ‘no contest’ might follow. Later, he could face suspension from boxing in addition to paying a hefty fine.

Ryan Garcia: Failing Test Results and Their Possible Impact

Ryan Garcia making it through the biggest controversy of his professional career has further implications. Most significantly, the roads to another epic, either against Errol Spence Jr. or a rematch with Devin Haney, should be clear. The chances of a Haney rematch could be hanging in the balance. However, ‘King Ry’ has reportedly called out Spence Jr. But the fact also remains that both Spence Jr. and Haney need to redeem themselves to bring their careers back on track. Given where he stands today in the sport, many perceive Garcia as the big ticket for either of them to roll back into the big league and payday.

‘KingRy’ receiving a one- or two-year suspension could mean pushing back a marketable return for a considerable duration. It’s a situation that might not bode well for either of the two former champions. Hence, there’s a good chance of fans of both Spence Jr. and Haney wishing for Ryan Garcia’s innocence.
