Canelo Alvarez is one of the greatest boxers of our generation and one of the best boxers to come out of Mexico. He has held titles across four weight divisions and was the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world until his loss to WBC light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol earlier this year.

Márquez snubs Alvarez from his top 5

‘Dynamite’ recently appeared in an interview with Pro Box Tv Espanol where he stated it is very difficult to choose only five boxers for his all-time list, “Difficult. The history of Mexican boxing is very rich. It is difficult to put five.” Marquez told the reporter. He then named his top five and also included himself in the list.” Rubén Olivares, Carlos Zárate, Lupe Pintor, Salvador Sánchez, to name a few. The history of boxing in Mexico is very extensive. I put myself last.” He added.

Moreover, he then gives his pick for the best Mexican boxer of all time and emphasized that there is no one greater, ” Julio Cesar Chavez number one. There are also Rubén Olivares, Ricardo López. It is that it is difficult to put the five, but one is Julio César Chávez. Chiquita González would also be among the best”.

However, among all these greats, Marquez failed to mention Canelo Alvarez, who is very deserving of a spot on the list.

Who will Canelo Alvarez fight next?

After his shocking loss to Bivol, many fans and pundits predicted he will certainly fight in a rematch with the Russian champion. However, it was announced that Alvarez will face his long-time rival Gennady Golovkin for the third time.

The fight will take place on 17th September at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be the final chapter of their trilogy. The pair first fought back in 2017 with the match ending in a draw and the rematch took place exactly one year later in which Alvarez won via split decision. This fight will be a great challenge for Alvarez, who will probably face Bivol in his next fight, to cement his legacy as one of the all-time greats.
