One of the four kings of boxing, Sugar Ray Leonard has long been celebrated as one of the best boxers in the sport ever. He was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1997, the same year he hung up the gloves after suffering back-to-back defeats at the hands of Terry Norris and Hector Camacho. However, every now and again, he makes the headlines for various updates about his life.

In a more recent update, the 68-year-old came back to the limelight because of his partnership with multinational footwear and apparel company Skechers. Founded back in 1992, the company, famous for its shoes, has grown to market capitalization of $9.51 billion as of November 2024. Regardless, Leonard signed an endorsement deal with the company back in 2015 and they seem to have been together since.

“If you need me, I’ll be here purchasing gifts for everyone on my list from @Skechers. True comfort and convenience without having to step foot in a mall,” the boxing legend added. Posting about the brand on social media seems to be part of his endorsement deal, as he has been sharing promotional posts about the footwear and apparel brand for a while now.

In another post on October 10th, the former world champion wrote, “Delivering a one-two punch of style and comfort. @Skechers GO WALK 7 footwear and Apparel are stylish, comfortable, and ready for anything this fall throws my way.” While their partnership isn’t new, Ray Leonard holds it in high regard.

Sugar Ray Leonard was excited to go a few rounds with Skechers

After joining forces with Skechers to promote their Relaxed Fit footwear in the fall of 2015, Sugar Ray Leonard expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration in a statement. “I am looking forward to being a part of this campaign with Skechers,” Leonard said. “I love going toe-to-toe with the best – and I’m ready to put on a pair of shoes as comfortable as Relaxed Fit and go a few rounds for this brand.”

Michael Greenberg, president of SKECHERS, echoed Leonard’s excitement, highlighting the boxing legend’s enduring appeal. “Sugar Ray is a natural media magnet: his charm and charisma have kept him on the air for more than 30 years as America’s boxing icon,” Greenberg stated. “We’re excited to have a champ like Sugar Ray in our corner.”

That said, it appears the relationship between Sugar Ray Leonard and Skechers continues to endure even though the boxing legend’s popularity isn’t what it used to be. What did you think about Leonard’s post?
