Right after successfully defending his European Boxing Union (EBU) title last week, the sanctioning body has ordered Adam Azim’s next defense of the title against another undefeated British fighter. The excitement surrounding this potential fight has captivated more than just his fans, with its hype now reaching British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn.

The 3rd of this month marked Azim’s first title defense after he secured the belt by defeating French southpaw, Franck Petitjean in November last year. The Berkshire-based fighter retained his title and his undefeated record by knocking out Dane, Enock Poulsen in the fifth round. The defeat came after Paulsen suffered a dislocated shoulder. While the controversial victory lingers in hindsight, his next potential opponent might pose another significant challenge to his ongoing reign in the super-lightweight division.

Boxing insider Michael Benson reported on his platform, formerly Twitter, about Azim’s next opponent that the EBU has ordered him to fight. The report noted that the organization is pushing for Azim vs. Dalton Smith from Yorkshire, and the projected purse bids are set for February 28th.

26-year-old, Dalton ‘Thunder’ Smith comes with a record of 15-0 and will reportedly face off against Jose Zepeda next in Matchroom’s card at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024. With a 15-0 record, he’s fought the likes of Sam Maxwell and Billy Allington and held the BBBoC and Commonwealth belts in the weight class. While the fight takes its concrete structure, the headlines have begun erupting. Reacting to it, in his suave is Eddie Hearn.

Eddie Hearn reacts to Smith’s chance at title

The British promoter’s promotion company, under whom Dalton Smith fights, calls the fighter, “Sheffield’s most successful ever amateur.” Excitement for this fight to take its course against the might of Adam Azim, with a chance to grab another belt got the promoter talking. He reacted to IFL TV’s headlining post about the fight on X. Hearn wrote, “What a fight! Can’t wait for this.”
