Boxing Pros React to Carl Frampton’s Emotional Retirement

Carl Frampton was clearly not in his best form tonight. The former two-division champion ended up being on the wrong end of a beat down and fell prey to Jamel Herring’s vicious shots. In a failed attempt at the WBO super featherweight strap, Frampton got knocked out in round six and announced his retirement in the post-fight segment.

It was quite shocking for the entire boxing world, as none of them expected to see the 34-year-old hung up his gloves. However, Frampton did declare his statement and put a quell on his glittery career.

Following 28 wins with just 3 losses, ‘Jackal’ is no longer an active professional. Meanwhile, several fans and boxing analysts have reacted to the retirement, pouring their love and respect for the ex-champion. Here’s a look at some of the tweets for Carl Frampton’s retirement.

Carl Frampton has all the reasons to raise his head high amongst every other pro pugilist in the slot. However, he would have wanted to stage a different outcome in his last fight. Frampton emerged strongly in the first round but appeared to rush himself against a composed Herring.

He successfully planted a deep cut over Herring’s eyes and seemed to use it as an advantage on his corner. But Jamel Herring turned the tide as dictated most of the period, securing a knockdown in round five.

Although Frampton could survive the round, he got doomed to defeat in round six. Frampton had very little left in the round all he appeared to try hard in planting the big shots. Meanwhile, Herring took his time to land the right shot and stopped Frampton.

While ‘Semper Fi’ remained the WBO super featherweight champion, and an emotional Carl Frampton called it a day amongst all the fans and pros of the sport.
