Just imagine how plain and simple boxers’ entrances used to be before the legend, Muhammad Ali, started using music to drop an energized entry in the 1970s. It surely wasn’t the most original thing to do, because he picked it up from another athlete too, with a few tweaks in the sense that he used the Star Wars theme for walking to the ring in his bout against Ernie Shavers in 1977, defending his undisputed heavyweight championship. He won that fight, by the way. Maybe because of the joyful entry? Maybe.

Years later, this little ritual continues in the succeeding generation, not just for the audience to hype the fighters up, but also for pumping up boxers to get into the zone and mindset of smashing their opponents down. Tomorrow, the Mexican hero, Canelo Alvarez is up against William Scull, the IBF super middleweight champion, for a feat that may set a new mark for future division boxers. In an undisputed bout, Alvarez can become the first-ever two-time super middleweight champ. The event is happening at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the undercards are as special as the Alvarez-Scull clash.

Whether you are going to attend the grand showdown Saturday night in person or watch it live on DAZN pay-per-view, here are the walkout songs you’ll be hearing for each fighter on that card.

Canelo Alvarez vs. William Scull walkout songs

Putting his WBA, WBC, and WBO belts on the line, Canelo is the one who has more to lose while he returns to claim the IBF title that was stripped from him in 2024 when he couldn’t agree on a purse bid for fighting his divisional rival and mandatory challenger at the time. So we are taking a rough guess that for the unified champ, the song could be something related to his Mexican heritage. El Indomable, on the other hand, might choose to side with Latin or Cuban music that bathes in his own culture. But then again, it is a very blind arrow shot in a dark room because there have been no reports around this.

In the past, though, some bright tunes lit up the venues when the 62-2 boxer and undefeated Cuban made their appearances on separate bouts. For his previous bout against Edgar Berlanga in September last year, Cinnamon had walked out to a live performance of Billete Grande by Fuerza Regida, with an entire band that escorted him along. Then again, before that, precisely a year before that, Saul Alvarez had chosen Mexican artists Santa Fe Klan and Tornillo Vázquez, performing an inciting performance of Por Mi México, to make his way to the ring when he fought Jermall Charlo.

Yet another time, Canelo was going to fight John Ryder, entering the Estadio Akron stadium in his own country, full of national pride and making a magnificent appearance to Jalisco’s anthem (the state he belongs to), and later the national anthem, Himno Nacional Mexicano. So this time too, it is unlikely for him to go offbeat with anything other than music in the language he’s most acquainted with, that is, Mexican. The same goes for his opponent, Scull, who has previously walked out to the powerful anthem Mi Dicen Cuba (They Call Me Cuba) by Havana D’Primera in October, when he won his current title from Vladimir Shishkin.

This was for the main event fighters, but what about the others? Are they going to soak in national pride, too? Let’s have a look.

Does the right walkout song really impact a boxer's performance, or is it just for show?

Walkout songs of Jaime Munguia, Martin Bakole, and others

On the undercard of tomorrow’s Riyadh season event, Jaime Munguia, the 44-2 boxer, will be standing eye-to-eye against Bruno Surace, the Frenchman whom nobody knew until he knocked Munguia out in the sixth round in December last year. In a bout against Jimmy Kilrain Kelly in 2022, the Tijuana native absorbed the audience with traditional Mariachi music, showing his Mexican heritage off like Canelo does. In another bout against D’Mitrius Ballard, he used El Ausente by Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga. But that’s not all. There are in total eight fights on the undercard, and Martin Bakole is set to fight Efe Ajagba.

Bakole, the Congolese 21-2 boxer, made a calm entry for the Joseph Parker fight, walking towards the ring with his theme song, Bakole by MPR playing in the background. Apart from that, in the heavyweight division, Badou Jack would be fighting Noel Mikaelyan in a cruiserweight title bout, finally bringing some stability to the WBC belt and champion status in the division. The Swedish-Gambian fighter used Sweet Caroline or other hip-hop tracks like Love Yourself by Eminem to draw inspiration to perform at his best. His Armenian opponent may blast the stage with Armenian folk music.

No matter what the specifics of the ringwalk music are for tomorrow, the atmosphere is still going to be exciting. Each of the boxers would use something that either deeply resonates with them or charges them up, even their moods heading into the fights. Which match are you most eager to watch tomorrow night?
