The boxing world was stunned to witness an accident taking place inside the boxing ring five years ago. In 2018, Badou Jack, the former cruiserweight champion unintentionally punched the referee. Jack was fighting Adonis Stevenson in 2018. The fight was competitive but what captivated the boxing world was when Jack punched Arthur Mercante Jr, the referee of the bout. The accident took place because Mercante Jr. knew the round was coming to an end and to stop punches being traded after the bell; he got in between the two competitors.

Unfortunately, Jack’s hook was already in motion and was aimed at Stevenson but Stevenson dodged it and instead landed right in the face of Mercante Jr. Needless to say, the check-hook landed pretty hard given the weight and strength of Jack. Yet, Mercante Jr did not get dropped, and he managed to not fall by relying on Jack and the ropes. The boxing world did not anticipate a referee to bear such a hard punch after witnessing the accident; few fans could not help themselves but troll Amir Khan.

Mercante Jr quite literally took the punch to his chin and proceeded to ref the rest of the bout. The clip recently resurfaced online and was posted by @WBCBoxing which proposed a question in the caption which stated, “Rate Arthur Mercante’s Jr. chin from 1 to 10!”
