The coronavirus pandemic has delayed numerous boxing matches over the last few months. Fights featuring Canelo Alvarez and Anthony Joshua come to mind immediately. Now, an all British clash featuring Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce has gotten its third date on October 24.

The bout which is scheduled to take place at the O2 Arena requires clearance from the Government. Promoter Frank Warren said, “Lockdown has meant a delay, but we all want the fight to take place in October and we are hopeful that the government will give us the all-clear.”

He believes that the winner could push for a world title shot in 2021. This may be a tad farfetched as Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have the belts locked up between them. However, the winner could box for a WBA (regular), an interim, or a secondary belt. Championships aside, the duo remains focused on their upcoming bout and will want to maintain their unbeaten streaks.

Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce are raring to fight

Joe Joyce can’t wait to box against ‘Dynamite.’ He said, “It was great news to get the new date so I can finally punch up Dubois.”

He claimed that the lockdown led him to believe that the match would not go ahead in July. Despite that, he continued training. This helped him stay active and take another fight to boost his resume. Joyce beat Michael Wallisch in July via a third-round TKO. The win marked his tenth career finish in eleven professional bouts.

The 34-year-old opined, “Now gyms are open for athletes. I can kick on and just keep my focus on the new date, finally settling the score with Dubois”

Momentum plays a key role as the ‘Juggernaut’ will not be rusty when he takes on the upstart. Dubois too has been active and trounced Ricardo Snijders last week. He said, “I’ll be ready to go in October for sure.”

The 22-year-old admitted that training amid a lockdown is challenging. However, he is keeping in the groove by helping his sparring partner prepare for his upcoming bout.

Despite being active, ‘Dynamite’ recognized the need to avoid complacency. He plans to get in sparring partners from overseas to give him a unique skill set to train against.

“Hopefully, in the near future, I will be able to get some good overseas sparring in. I’ll be ready for October 24, so I hope Joe is coming prepared.”

The Brits have 24 combined knockouts in 26 fights. Given their career trajectories and fighting styles, fans will witness an absolute barn-burner.
