The news of Taylor’s swift comeback came after a month, following her impressive title defense against Delfine Persoon on August 22. Taylor claimed a sensational win via decision, advancing her record to 16-0.

However, her upcoming opponent is also undefeated, and it will be alluring to see whose clean record falls apart.

Eddie Hearn felt threatened by Katie Taylor

Speaking with Boxing social, Eddie Hearn revealed that Miriam Gutierrez is WBO’s mandatory challenger. Thus, she will get to test herself against Taylor while others wait in the queue.

That said, Hearn was initially planning to host an all women-fight card, headlined by Taylor and Gutierrez. Surprisingly, ‘The Bray Bomber’ didn’t like the idea.

Hearn said, “I spoke to Katie Taylor about an all women’s card. I thought that was a really good idea. Katie Taylor looked at me like she wanted to punch me when I said that.”

Hearn further clarified that his idea was demeaning the spirit of the sport. As per the Matchroom promoter, it’s not about the genders involved. Thus, arranging a whole women’s card didn’t make much sense for him.

He added, “So actually when I started thinking about it, listening to what she said, I realized that a women’s only card is detrimental in my opinion to the growth of what we’re trying to do.”

Now, talking about the contest, Gutierrez is a tough contender who might stun Katie Taylor. In 2019, the Spaniard won all five of her bouts, turning 13-0 in professional boxing.

On paper, her dominance is like Taylor’s. That said, one cannot rule out the current world champion’s chances. Whatever the outcome may be, Taylor and Gutierrez can stage one of the biggest lightweight thrillers of recent times. Fight fans cannot afford to blink when the duo collides in the ring.
