COVID-19 continues to hamper the sports universe across England. Boxing too wasn’t spared, as the nation had to suspend all its events for the month of January.
As per reports, a new strain of COVID-19 has been found and it’s even deadlier. So, England had to scrap up its pre-planned events to curb the pandemic. However, the stoppage of events will not be for long and there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
British Boxing Board of Control took to Twitter and broke the news for the fans. As per the tweet, the suspension will be lifted by mid-February. However, until then, boxing fans will have to rely on other promotions and countries to keep the show running.

Meanwhile, Matchroom has finalized its next event for February 27. A heavyweight clash between Joseph Parker and Junior Fa will serve as the headliner. However, the event is scheduled to take place at the Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. So, it’s still unsure whether the UK will have an event on its shores anytime soon, as promotion houses will have made plans.
Boxing and the COVID-19 war
The saga began last year when COVID-19 forced the whole world to remain indoors. It deprived the fans of sporting events for months. But Matchroom came up Matchroom Fight Camp where events emanated from Eddie Hearn’s garden.

It was followed by several more interesting fights that sealed 2020 as an exceptional year for boxing. 2021 also began on a wonderful note with an electrifying event between Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell. But the current UK lockdown might put a dent in the sport again. The upcoming events are yet to have fresh dates and venues. So, fans can expect British boxing to take a back step for a while.
