

WNBA superstar Brittney Griner has finally been released from Russia after she landed in the country to play basketball. Griner was arrested back in February for carrying vape cartridges containing cannabis oil. She was then sentenced to nine years in prison by a court in Moscow.

However, she has now been released in exchange for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. Many people have found this exchange to be a little unfair as Griner was swapped for a war criminal and a threat to US national security. This included WBO welterweight champion Jesse Vargas, who had a message for the WNBA player.
Jesse Vargas urges Brittney Griner to re-evaluate her patriotism
Vargas took to Twitter and asked Griner to think about the consequences of her actions. Moreover, he stated that a ‘terrorist’ had been freed in exchange for her and that she need to re-evaluate what she could do for her country to repay the debt.

“I hope #BrittneyGriner re-evaluates what she could do to become a proud American and to do more for this country. Being traded for a man known as a terrorist and a threat to this country has to make you think of what you can do in exchange to defend your country #America I would,” he wrote.

Vargas was quick to call out Griner following her release and did not have any sympathy toward her. However, Griner will now surely think twice before trying to break laws in countries with stringent law enforcement.

Brittney Griner’s wife speaks on her return
Cherelle Griner, the wife of Brittney, recently spoke up about her wife finally returning from Russia. In a conference at the White House, she thanked everyone who came out in support of her wife and was joyous about her wife returning after nine months. “Thank You everybody for your support and today is just a happy day for me and my family. So I’m just gonna smile right now, thank you.” she said.

The saga of Brittney Griner’s arrest was a rollercoaster ride that has finally come to an end. Although the price to pay for her was huge, it was able to bring her back to her family, where she belonged.
