This comes after Canelo beat Callum Smith to become the WBC super-middleweight champion. After his victory, he called for unification bouts. However, Plant feels that Canelo will have to think twice before taking the fight.

Speaking on the AK & Barak Show on DAZN, Plant said, “I mean, I can’t say for sure. I don’t know what his heart says. But I know, that at a 168 lbs, I know I’m the best fighter in the world. So, whoever else is at a 168 lbs, I’ll put them behind me.”

Plant explained why he is the best fighter in the division. “I feel like I got the best defense, I feel like I got the best footwork, I feel like I got the fastest hands, I feel like I got the best ring IQ, and I’m a real 168-pounder.”

Plant has been fairly subdued in his career up until now. These are not the kind of comments one would associate with the IBF champion. However, it comes as a result of there being a little history between the pair.

When Alvarez was free from Golden Boy Promotions, his first opponent was meant to be Plant. However, he opted to face Callum Smith instead. Many suspect this was because Smith was a more marketable fight for the Mexican.

Since then Plant reacted to Canelo’s victory with a stern message and has said he is ready to make that fight happen. If ‘Sweethands’ can get through his next fight against Caleb Truax on January 30, we could see him fight the Mexican for the unification of the division. Do you think Canelo Alvarez should fight Caleb Plant?
