IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant seems surprised to know that Terence Crawford is considering a move to his division. Although ‘Bud’ is now on the brink of defending his WBO 147 lbs title against Shawn Porter, he has already expressed disgust over the scarcity of potential matchups at the welterweight division.

Following a win over Kell Brook in 2020, Crawford hasn’t appeared in action yet. Meanwhile, the 147 lbs division has seen several big fights happen without him taking the top slot. So, the undefeated champion might have decided to gain 21 lbs more and challenge bigger fighters on his way to the top.

Terence Crawford took to social media and announced his possible shift, turning many heads from the fight world. IBF titlist Plant also expressed his shock at the notice, as he is already reigning over the super middleweight (168 lbs) division.

Akin to Crawford, Plant is also an undefeated world champion. He will face the P4P king Canelo Alvarez on November 6 to become the undisputed unified super middleweight champion. Thus, ‘Sweet Hands’ already has a pound-for-pound best opponent on his radar. And Crawford’s entry into the division will only rake up the challenges for him.

Once reigned by several elite champions, the super middleweight division is now under the threshold of Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant. In response to Plant’s IBF title, Alvarez holds the WBA, WBO, WBC, and Ring belts. Thus, it has come down to just two men, before anyone else intervenes into the 168 lbs title ride.

Caleb Plant has a lot of options ahead
‘Sweet Hands’ will enter the biggest fight of his career when he takes on Canelo Alvarez for all four belts. Apart from legacy, a hefty paycheck will await the American champion. Besides, it will open up the door to more blockbuster appearances.
As of now, Terence Crawford’s reported move is hardly credible. To make it official, ‘Bud’ needs to follow up on much more than just a social media post. So, it’s safe to believe that either Alvarez or Plant will dictate the direction of the 168 lbs division ahead. Meanwhile Terence Crawford many continue demanding the biggest fights in the welterweight roster.
