IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant has reacted to Canelo Alvarez’s victory over Callum Smith. Alvarez took on Smith for his WBA super-middleweight title and beat the scouser via unanimous decision. His dominant display caught the eye of many; however, this performance clearly did not impress fellow champion at 168.
The American was the first rumored opponent for Alvarez after he was set free from his lawsuit against his promoters. Furthermore, that was a fight that did grab Plant’s attention, and it seemed a certainty.

However, things fell through at the last moment and Canelo chose to fight Smith. And with his punch-perfect display, he’s the latest champion at 168. However, Plant took to his Instagram to reveal who is the best at the division.

Plant holds the IBF belt after his victory over Jose Uzcategui in 2019. The undefeated fighter has since had two successful defenses of his title and proved his champion status. Furthermore, he displayed lightning-quick speed and ferocious power in his previous fights.
This makes him a tough champion to dethrone at this weight class.

When could Caleb Plant and Canelo Alvarez fight?
In his post-fight interview, the Mexican expressed his desire to unify the division against one of the other champions. Long-time rival Billy Joe Saunders holds the WBO belt, while Plant holds the IBF title. So, if Canelo does want to unify the division, he will have to fight either of them at least. Hence, it makes for a very interesting 2021, provided Alvarez stays at this weight.
